We’ve grown our Staff from scratch, with nearly all of them being former Passages Campers. We do this without judgment or discrimination, and we’re vocal and passionate about it. Our Campers are our peers, and when we challenge them, we’re challenging ourselves. We don’t all have the same values, but we expect every Passages Camper and Staff Member to embrace each other with basic human respect. We own our mistakes and celebrate our successes. We share the rationale behind everything we do, nip problems in the bud, and tell it like it is. We help them feel secure and set them up for success. We’re excited to see our Passages Campers each and every day. Empowering a child to push past their comfort zone can cause tears, but through empathy and encouragement, we help kids build the confidence to explore those limits. We don’t expect giant leaps forward, but rather small steps, and we use these steps to build confidence.

It’s harder than ever before to be a kid – especially during a Covid Crisis – and our experience has taught us that each child reacts differently. Speak up when they think they have no voice. Make just one more big move on a rock climb when their arms and brains are screaming “Enough!”. Rush down the log-flume steps at the beginning of a 5-mile kayak trip. Spend the night sleeping in the dark in a debris hut that they’ve built from scratch.
